Elevate Testing Engineers to Debugging Experts
Without physical layer knowledge, test engineers have difficulties explaining the root cause of test case issues. The lack of physical layer insight leads to testing back-and-forth and debugging loops.
When test engineers have physical layer insights, they can define well-targeted test cases to identify the root causes, deliver debugging reports that point out the exact root cause of technical issues.
Example 5G Testing: Resolving the Throughput Test Case Issue with PHY Knowledge
Test case failures: Intermittent throughput drops are observed in 5G PDSCH test cases.
By various regression and golden-reference tests, engineers identify failed test cases are related to mismatch between key system configurations with wireless channel setups.
However, engineers are unable to explain why the tests fail and under what conditions the tests fail.
After the training, test engineers understand how specific PHY system configurations can lead to Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) and Inter-Carrier Interference (ICI).
PHY configurations are re-adjusted to remove the ISI and ICI in the newly defined test cases. By eliminating the ISI and ICI, intermittent throughput drops disappeared. The issue is resolved.
The key root cause is found to be the misconfigured OFDM system parameters under particular Doppler and multipath setups, causing ISI and ICI that degrade the throughput performance.
Review our Lecture 1 Video to understand how ISI and ICI are related to the wireless channel and OFDM system parameters.
